”Nǐ hǎo ma” (how do you do) and “hěn gāo xìng rèn shí nǐ (nice to meet you)” has been the order of the day, making new friends, learning and understanding new cultures and traditions is hugely exciting and is very much the ethos of Engel &Voelkers.
Earlier today we spoke with our associate realtor Kim Markham who is showcasing at the show, Here are her comments:
“The traffic at the event has started to gain momentum, and has allowed me to really talk to and engage with the Chinese buyers/investors.
They are very much interested in the California market, as they are very aware of the celebrities living among us. The mention of Kobe Bryant and Tiger Woods has given Newport Coast and Newport Beach a lot of validity.”
Kim also commented:
“The Chinese are very aware of the state of the real estate market in the U.S. and realize that now is a good time to invest. They are looking for value, and a good return-they are very savvy investors.
If they have children, they are looking for places to allow their children to have the best education possible, and property to be passed down through generations.”
We asked Kim to share with us any jovial moments encountered on the trip thus far:
“I’ve learned that my first and last names are very masculine- only used for men. So, I’ve received some double-takes when I hand my card to people…they look at the card, look at me, look at the card, and then ask my translator “what’s up”. I’ve started to tell them upfront now….yes, I have a man’s name and get a lot of smiles.”
Stay tuned for news and pictures tomorrow.
